In 1835, Merzario started its own business in the field of rapid stagecoaches on the Milan-Como-Zurich line.
In a very dynamic phase of the region's infrastructural development, Merzario knew how to use the available resources; in the mid-nineteenth century, Merzario developed the first intermodal services, making the stagecoaches travel partly on the Milano-Monza railway line.
Thanks to the modernity of its own organization and execution of the transport services, Merzario became the official carrier of the Swiss Post and in 1920 opened an agency based in Chiasso.
In 1935, Andrea Merzario SA was founded, with its offices in Chiasso.
In line with the evolution of means of transport and with the increase of transport demand, Andrea Merzario SA entered the field of transports by land and especially by sea.
Andrea Merzario SA was capable of offering a global service, maintaining strong ties with the local entrepreneurship and at the same time adapting to the increasing growth of industrial volumes.
